"Bringing hope to Haiti...one step at a time..."

Sacred Heart Church of Southbury is excited to invite you to participate in our Second Annual Hoof it for Haiti-Southbury 5K Run & Walk on Saturday, April 28, 2012. Your participation in this fundraiser is what allows us to support the many programs and individual projects we have established through our twinning relationship with the people of Our Lady of Seven Sorrows in Grand Boulage, Haiti.

Proceeds from last year’s race have made it possible for us to purchase textbooks for the 240 schoolchildren in Grand Boulage. The village was presented with the books just in time for the school year to begin this October. It was the first time any of these students had textbooks to study with.

Another great outcome from last year’s race was that home repairs are now underway for many homes in the village that had been uninhabitable. There are many more homes in need of repairs and we plan on continuing this project with the funds that we raise this year. Additionally, we look to begin other projects, such as the building of cisterns for clean drinking water, building latrines, and starting vocational training and microcredit programs for the people of Grand Boulage.

We are grateful to the members of the Hoof it for Haiti race committee at St. Elizabeth Seton Church in Rocky Hill for their assistance and guidance in setting up this annual race event. The HIFH Rocky Hill will be held in September (date TBA).
